We recently received an inquiry from the plastics extrusion industry. The client needed to filter not only large quantities of colloids but also large quantities of dust. The pore size of a viscous gel filter element is typically not too small, as colloids can easily clog the filter element, necessitating frequent cleaning and replacement. However, if the pore size is too large, it will not be able to filter fine dust. Therefore, a conventional viscous gel filter cannot meet the requirements.
To solve this challenge, we implemented a two-stage filtration system:
- Primary Filtration Stage: Adopts stainless steel element to capture viscous gel while maintaining acceptable flow rates.
- Secondary Filtration Stage: Incorporates a high-efficiency particulate filter with precision media to remove dust particles.

To address operational continuity requirements, we applied a switchable filter design (dual-chamber design). The difference from the previous design is that the tanks are of different sizes, because the small tank is only used temporarily when cleaning and replacing the filter element of the large tank. This will not affect production efficiency due to downtime.
This switchable two-stage filtration solution successfully resolved our client's simultaneous adhesive and particulate filtration challenges while maintaining their critical production uptime requirements. As industrial vacuum applications grow increasingly sophisticated, off-the-shelf filtration solutions often fail to meet these complex demands.
