Common vacuum pump inlet filters
The function of the vacuum pump inlet filter is to help isolate impurities when the vacuum pump pumping. According to the different impurities like dust, vapour, the corresponding dust filter or gas-liquid separator is selected to prevent the vacuum pump from sucking in impurities when taking in air, causing the internal parts of the vacuum pump to be damaged and the working fluid to be contaminated. It is understandable that a filter needs to be installed when vacuuming, but why is a filter also required when breaking the vacuum?
What is vacuum breaking?
Vacuum breaking means breaking the vacuum by balancing the pressure inside and outside the vacuum chamber. Just image that a product is processed in the vacuum; due to the huge difference in air pressure inside and outside the chamber, if you want to take the product out, you need to balance the air pressure inside and outside. Usually, a valve is specially set on the vacuum equipment to achieve “vacuum breaking”. And the inlet filter installed here is called a vacuum breaking filter. So the vacuum filter is actually the inlet filter, it is just given a different name because of the different installation location.
Why is it necessary to install an inlet filter when breaking the vacuum?
During the vacuum breaking operation, due to the large difference in internal and external air pressure, air will be quickly sucked into the vacuum chamber after the valve is opened. At this time, external impurities may enter the vacuum chamber and vacuum pump along with the air, causing pollution to the processed products. In order to prevent this from happening, an inlet filter is usually installed at the valve. This not only protects the products in the vacuum chamber, but also protect vacuum equipments . Therefore, an inlet filter is also required when breaking the vacuum.
