Don’t confuse these two states of the oil mist filter

Users of oil-sealed vacuum pumps must be familiar with vacuum pump oil mist filters. They help oil-sealed vacuum pumps filter the discharged oil mist, which can recover pump oil, save costs and protect the environment. But do you know its various states?

The first state is "clogged", in which the oil mist filter needs to be replaced. At this time, the oil mist filter element has reached its service life, and its interior is blocked by long-term accumulated oil sludge. Continuing to use such an oil mist filter element will cause the vacuum pump to exhaust poorly, and oil mist will reappear at the exhaust port. In severe cases, it will cause the filter element to burst and even cause the vacuum pump to explode. Therefore, once the oil mist filter element reaches its service life, a new oil mist filter element should be replaced immediately.

The second state is “saturation”. Many customers confuse the saturation state of the filter element with the blocked state, and think that saturation is blockage. Because "saturation" means that it cannot accommodate more. In fact, "saturation" means that the oil mist filter element is fully infiltrated with pump oil. The oil mist filter element is to capture oil mist, so it will be infiltrated by the captured oil molecules shortly after use, that is, it will enter the saturated state. The saturated oil mist filter element indeed cannot contain more oil molecules, so the captured oil molecules gather together and become oil liquid, which keeps dripping into the oil tank. Therefore, the saturated state is actually the normal working state of the oil mist filter.

In fact, few customers will mention the concept of "saturation", and many customers may not know this concept. The filter element is clogged by oil sludge. The filter element being soaked in oil does not mean that it cannot be used. It is important to distinguish between the two states of "saturation" and "clogged".
