How to Protect Your Pump During Vacuum Defoaming

Why Vacuum Defoaming Is Used in Liquid Mixing

Vacuum defoaming is widely applied in industries like chemicals and electronics, where liquid materials are stirred or mixed. During this process, air gets trapped inside the liquid, forming bubbles that can affect product quality. By creating a vacuum, the internal pressure drops, allowing these bubbles to escape efficiently.

How Vacuum Defoaming Can Harm the Vacuum Pump

Although vacuum defoaming improves product quality, it can also pose risks to your vacuum pump. During mixing, some liquids—such as glue or resin—may vaporize under vacuum. These vapors can be drawn into the pump, where they condense into liquid again, damaging seals and contaminating the pump oil.

What Causes Problems During Vacuum Defoaming

When materials like resin or curing agents are vaporized and pulled into the pump, they may cause oil emulsification, corrosion, and internal wear. These issues lead to reduced pumping speed, shortened pump life, and unexpected maintenance costs—all stemming from unprotected vacuum defoaming setups.

How to Improve Safety in Vacuum Defoaming Processes

To solve this, a gas-liquid separator should be installed between the chamber and the vacuum pump. It removes condensable vapors and liquids before they reach the pump, ensuring only clean air passes through. This not only protects the pump but also maintains stable long-term operation of the system.

Real Case: Vacuum Defoaming Improved with Filtration

One of our clients was defoaming glue at 10–15°C. Vapors entered the pump, damaging internal components and polluting the oil. After installing our gas-liquid separator, the issue was resolved. Pump performance stabilized, and the client soon ordered six more units for other production lines.
