We recently received an inquiry from a customer who reported poor performance from oil mist filter elements he had purchased. After installation, his vacuum pump exhibited poor exhaust flow, the pump oil became contaminated more quickly, and oil change intervals had to be shortened significantly.
However, we did not rush to recommend a replacement oil mist filter. Based on his description, we suspected that the issue might originate from the inlet side of the pump—possibly due to an unsuitable or low-quality inlet filter. But the customer noted that such problems had not occurred when he used the original manufacturer’s filter elements. We then suggested checking the inlet filter, yet its condition appeared normal.
Since the customer still had several unused oil mist filter elements on hand, we asked him to share photos and videos. Through the images, we quickly spotted the root cause: the filter elements were unusually smooth, as if coated with a glossy film. It means that these filters had been treated with a surface spray adhesive—a non-standard manufacturing process intended solely to improve visual appeal.
This glossy coating, however, came at a cost:
- The adhesive clogged the surface pores of the filter media, obstructing the passage of oil mist and increasing exhaust resistance.
- Under the elevated operating temperatures of the vacuum pump, the adhesive layer softened and partially melted, allowing contaminants to drip back into the pump oil. This accelerated oil degradation, and increased maintenance frequency.
You could notice ours’ surface resembles a dense, felt-like mat—natural, breathable, and uncoated. But the true performance lies not in the surface appearance, but in the inner glass fiber filtration layer. LVGE uses high-quality glass fiber media imported from Germany, which ensures excellent oil mist capture efficiency while maintaining low exhaust resistance. Lower resistance means reduced backpressure, lower energy consumption, and less impact on the pump’s ultimate vacuum and pumping speed—this is the true value of a premium filter element.
In short, when selecting oil mist filter elements, do not be swayed by a shiny exterior. The real measure of quality lies in the internal media, structural design, and manufacturing precision. Choosing a high-quality element is not just protection for the vacuum pump—it is a smart long-term investment in production efficiency and maintenance cost control.
